How to transfer Minecraft Bedrock Edition World

Posted by Tabish | Nov 11, 2024

Want to play your Minecraft Bedrock Edition world on a different device? Sharing your world, backing it up, or moving it is easier than you think! This guide covers transferring Minecraft Bedrock worlds between all compatible platforms: PC (Windows 10), Mobile (Android & iOS), Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. We'll explore using Realms, servers, and manual file transfers.

Transferring Minecraft Bedrock Worlds Using Realms

Minecraft Realms offers the easiest way to transfer and share your Bedrock world across different devices. You'll need an active Realms Plus subscription. This method allows cross-platform Minecraft Bedrock world transfers.

Uploading Your World to Realms

  1. Open Minecraft and go to the Realms tab.
  2. Find your Realm and select the pencil/edit icon.
  3. Choose "Replace world".
  4. Select the world you want to transfer.
  5. Wait for the upload to complete. This may take a few minutes depending on the world size.

Downloading Your World from Realms

  1. Open Minecraft on your target device and go to the Realms tab.
  2. Select your Realm.
  3. Choose "Download World".

Ensure you use the same Microsoft account on both devices for this Minecraft Bedrock Realm transfer to work.

Transferring Minecraft Bedrock Worlds Using Servers

A dedicated Minecraft Bedrock server is excellent for playing with friends and provides an alternative to Realms for world transfers. However, setting up and managing a server requires more technical knowledge.

Manual Minecraft Bedrock World Transfer (Advanced)

Manually transferring your Minecraft world files offers more flexibility if you're not using Realms or a server. However, this method is more complex and may not be suitable for all platforms.

Locating Your Minecraft Bedrock World Files

The location of your Minecraft Bedrock world save files varies depending on the device:

Windows 10:

%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds

Android:

/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds (You'll need a file manager app.)

iOS (iPhone/iPad):

Requires specialized file access tools. iFunBox or other similar tools might work, but iOS restrictions make this more challenging.

Xbox Instructions

Transferring Minecraft worlds on Xbox requires using Realms:

  1. On your Xbox, upload the world to a Realm following the steps in the Transferring Using Realms section.
  2. On the target device, download the world from the Realm to complete the transfer.

Switch Instructions

The Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft does not offer direct file access. Use Realms to transfer worlds:

  1. Upload your world to a Realm on the Switch.
  2. On the target device, sign into your Minecraft account, access the Realm, and download the world.

PC (Windows 10) Export/Import Instructions

Exporting a World:

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
  2. Click "Play".
  3. Select the "Worlds" tab.
  4. Click the pencil icon next to the world you want to export.
  5. Scroll down in "Game Settings" and click "Export World".
  6. Choose a save location and click "Export". This creates a `.mcworld` file.

Importing a World:

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
  2. Click "Play" and select the "Worlds" tab.
  3. Click the icon with a left arrow (next to "Create New").
  4. Find and select the `.mcworld` file you exported.
  5. Click "Import".

Copying and Moving the World Files

Use a USB drive, cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive), or file-sharing service to copy the world folder (or the `.mcworld` file) to your target device.

Platform-Specific Transfer Instructions

Minecraft Bedrock: PC to Mobile Transfer

Export the world from your PC as a `.mcworld` file (see above). Transfer the `.mcworld` file to your mobile device. Open the file on your mobile device. Minecraft should recognize and import the world.

To transfer your Minecraft Bedrock world from PC to mobile:

  1. Export the world on your PC following the PC Export instructions above.
  2. Transfer the .mcworld file to your mobile device using a USB connection, cloud storage, or email.
  3. On your mobile device, open the file in the Minecraft app. This should import the world into your mobile version.

Minecraft Bedrock: Mobile to PC Transfer

Locate the world folder on your mobile device. Transfer the folder to your PC. Place the folder in the `minecraftWorlds` directory on your PC (see the file path above).

To transfer from mobile to PC:

  1. Locate the world file on your mobile device (see Locating Your World File above).
  2. Transfer the folder to your PC using a USB cable, cloud storage, or email.
  3. Import the world file on your PC by placing it in the Minecraft world folder or using the "Import World" feature.

Minecraft Bedrock: Xbox World Transfer

The easiest method for Xbox is using Realms (see above). Direct file access is generally not available.

Minecraft Bedrock: Nintendo Switch World Transfer

Realms is also the recommended method for the Nintendo Switch. Direct file access is typically restricted.

Minecraft Bedrock: PlayStation World Transfer

Refer to PlayStation documentation or support for Bedrock world transfers as methods may vary.

Troubleshooting Minecraft Bedrock World Transfers

"World Import Failed" Error:

If you encounter the "World import failed" error, it usually means the world file is corrupted, or there's a version incompatibility between Minecraft versions on your devices. Double-check that you're running the same Bedrock version and that the world file transferred completely.

Device Compatibility:

Ensure both devices are running compatible versions of Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

File Transfer Issues:

If using cloud storage or USB, verify the transfer completed successfully. A partially transferred world file will likely cause errors.
