Where to Find Lapis Lazuli in Minecraft

Like any other game, Minecraft divides itself into chunks. Chunks allow the game to load, save, and generate in an optimized manner. Minecraft uses chunks, the size of 16×16 blocks, from Bedrock to the sky.

Lapis lazuli can be found in various places in Minecraft, including underground and in chests. Below are the different ways to find lapis lazuli in Minecraft:

Find Lapis Lazuli by Mining

Lapis Lazuli can only appear up to 2 times per chunk in veins between four and eight blocks. It will appear in all biomes except Ice Biome. One can find Lapis Lazuli between layers 32 to 0.

Find Lapis Lazuli through Chests

Lapis Lazuli in Minecraft can be found in chess too. Like village chests, abandoned mineshaft chests and dungeon chests. However, the type of chest determines the chances of finding lapis lazuli.

Find Lapis Lazuli by Trading

Stay friendly with your neighbours. Villagers like farmers, fletchers and shepherds have a good chance to offer lapis lazuli in exchange for emeralds. Emeralds are rare ores, i would advise against making this trade unless you really have to.

If Lapis Lazuli generates in exposed air, it immediately gets destroyed without you even noticing it. In other words, you will never find Lapis Lazuli in the open air in Minecraft. It’s a complete-time waste and not fun. So, how should you mine Lapis Lazuli? What strategy should one use to make it fun and progress faster in the game? To learn more, continue reading.

How to find Lapis Lazuli quickly in Minecraft? (the Smart Way)

How to obtain large amounts of lapis lazuli quickly in Minecraft? Or What is the fastest way to mine lapis lazuli in Minecraft? Or What is the best way to find lapis lazuli in Minecraft? The answer to all these questions is the same.

To find Lapis Lazuli ore by digging a mine or finding a cave or a ravine is the best advisable method. You can locate a vein of Lapis Lazuli ore at these locations. Mining everything in layers 32 to 0 is not a good strategy as it is time-consuming, exhausting and not fun. Moreover, you will end up with tons of unwanted resources and have no place to store them.

The best way to quickly find Lapis Lazuli is to mine between layers 13-16 which can also be found near diamond ore. When the ore is mined with a stone pickaxe or better, 4–8 pieces of lapis lazuli are dropped. I would suggest keeping a Fortune 1 Pickaxe in handy. Once you know you have secured enough Lapis Lazuli you can enchant your pickaxe to Fortune 3, with the Fortune III enchantment, a single ore has a chance of dropping up to 36 items.

What Lapis Lazuli is Used For in Minecraft?

Lapis lazuli in Minecraft is used for many things, among them are as follows

Dyeing wool

If you like to dye things blue, lapis lazuli is the ingredient. To dye the wool in blue colour, you need to combine while wool with lapis lazuli on the crafting table.

Enchanting

Enchantment helps you gain additional benefits from an item such as tools, armour or weapon. Lapis lazuli is an essential ingredient for enchanting. To enchant an item you need a few lapis lazuli, an enchanting table and the item you will be enchanting. Place lapis lazuli in the third slot and the item in the first slot. The higher the level of enchantment the more lapis lazuli is required to achieve the enchantment.

Beacon

Beacons are very useful for adding additional boosts to your character in a limited range. To make a beacon you will require obsidian, glass, and a nether star, as well as three blocks of lapis lazuli.

Decorations

If you like decorating things in Minecraft. Lapis lazuli can help make blue stained glass and blue terracotta. Hopefully, this will add more colours to your decoration.

What tools to use to mine Lapis Lazuli in Minecraft?

Mining Lapis Lazuli requires a stone pickaxe or better. Wood pickaxe, Hands or non-tool items will not work, and you would end up destroying the ore. In other words, you will gain nothing. By enchanting your pickaxe with Fortune, you will get more Lapis Lazuli from a single node. For maximum results, enchant pickaxe with Fortune 3. Fortune 3 pickaxe can drop up to 36 Lapis Lazuli ores.

How to Branch Mine in Minecraft?

Dig your way underground to the desired level. Try to avoid digging straight down as you might fall into lava or a pit. Bedrock is the bottom-most layer in Minecraft and is unbreakable. Ores are most commonly located only a few blocks above this layer, so dig until your character’s y-coordinate is 11 or so. (Press F3 to see this value.)

Now you can start digging small tunnels that your character can fit. The tunnel can be as small as one block wide and two blocks tall. Use torches to light the area, or else your tunnel will attract unwanted guests. In other words, if you do not place torches in the tunnel, enemies will spawn.

The next step is to build more tunnels by splitting from the main route. Build more tunnels that branch off from the first one. This way you can look for ores over a large area. You can get the most out of this method by digging tunnels two blocks apart from each other. By doing so, you can now inspect a large surface area and not miss anything.

Tip: If you are uncomfortable with the show coordinates, you could use sea level to calculate how deep you should dig. One could use sea level to know the current layer. As sea level in Minecraft is 62. Therefore one must locate a sea, then dig down 51 blocks (62 – 51 is 11). You should be at layer 11 if you follow the steps.
