What is the Wither in Minecraft?
The wither is an undead hostile boss mob that floats and shoots explosive skulls at players and mobs, that can only be purposely constructed by the player. It is the only source of nether stars, which are used to craft beacons.
Wither, a difficult and terrifying boss. Destroying away your whole world which you might have spent hours and hours building, alone or with friends. If you mess up, you know your friends are going to be so mad at you.

Devising a plan
The first thing that comes to mind is How to prevent it from destroying everything? How to pin it down in one location which it cannot escape? How to trap it ?. It can destroy almost any kind of block in Minecraft. Yes it is true, but it is also true that it can almost destroy any block, in other words, it cannot destroy all the blocks. The Wither cannot destroy bedrock in even hard mode.
The next question is how does one trap it in bedrock? as you cannot mine it, nor will you find a cavity large enough to house it. Here is the trick, you do not need to build a whole cage to trap it. You just need the bedrock above it. You must be thinking this is not possible. It is possible, in the End world. The portal which leads back to the Overworld is made with bedrock. You can dig the area around it as it's made with End Stone.
Executing the plan
Note: If you want to safely do this you should kill the Ender Dragon first. Although it is not necessary. You can dig a tunnel that would lead you to the bedrock portal. You just need to be below the surface. So the dragon cannot harm you.
Note: All you need to trap and kill the Wither is 4 Obsidian Blocks, 4 Soul Stone Blocks, 3 Wither Skeleton Skulls, 1 End Stone and 1 Wooden Block.
Once you are underneath the portal, make a room 7 blocks wide 7 blocks deep and 3 blocks height ie 7x7x3 and the bedrock. Now find the centre of the portal. If you stand at one side of the portal you will see 3 blocks of bedrock in one line. Place a sandstone block on the centre block. Like the picture below.
Then place a soul stone block and a wooden block. Just like the image below.
The wooden block is the most important spot. Now you can remove the Sand Stone and Soul Stone block but do not touch the wooden block. Place an Obsidian block on the floor directly underneath the wooden block. As shown in the image below.
Now place 3 obsidian blocks before the existing obsidian block, like the image below.
Now break the wooden block and place Soul Stone on top of each obsidian block, like the image below.
Finally, place the Wither Skeleton Skulls like the image below. I have not placed one in the centre, if i did, it would turn into The Wither boss. After placing the centre skull you need to stand at a fair distance away, to avoid getting any damage. The Wither will get stuck in the Bedrock above and will suffocate slowly.
I would stand at a safe distance and watch the wither kill itself. Just like the image below.
